Marine Superintendent


Superport Marine Services is one of the leading marine services companies in Atlantic Canada. Owning and operating a fleet of offshore survey vessels, tugboats, pilot boats, crew/work boats, barges and associated equipment, Superport provides marine services to a broad customer base across a wide variety of industries. Superport is currently seeking a Marine Superintendent to support the offshore fleet. This position offers an opportunity to lead a dedicated work force in a dynamic, fast paced work environment with opportunities for advancement..

Position Type: Full-time, Management

Location:  Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia

Experience Required:  7- 10 years

Experience and Education

  • Minimum 5 years shipboard experience as a Senior Officer..

  • Minimum 2-3 years shore based experience in a managerial role.

  • Ideal candidate will also have a post-secondary degree or equivalent in a related field.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the President, the Marine Superintendent will be responsible for the following:

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of maintenance and fabrication activities and provide leadership and technical oversight as required.

  • Ensure the safe, efficient operation and management of the offshore fleet.

  • Plan and manage vessel maintenance, working closely with offshore crews and shore-side maintenance and support teams.

  • Ensure the full technical readiness of vessels to meet project requirements.

  • Coordinate surveys, inspections and certification ensuring vessels are fully operational in accordance with local, national, flag and classification society requirements.

  • Monitor operations and ensure compliance related to vessel Safety Management Systems (SMS) under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

  • Ensure compliance with the ISPS Code.

  • Perform the duties of Designated Person Ashore (DPA) and Company Security Officer as per ISM and ISPS Codes, which includes providing on call support to the fleet.

  • Ensure the offshore fleet is adequately resourced including assisting with crewing as required.

  • Work to bring vessel planned maintenance systems in line with industry best practices.

  • Undertake vessel visits and inspections as required.

Requirements

  • Highly-developed communication and leadership skills, complimented with a professional approach to problem-solving in a team environment.

  • Strong understanding and practical experience with ensuring compliance with Maritime Rules and Regulations, ISM Code, ISPS and class requirements. Lead Auditor certification an asset.

  • Strong organizational skills, including prioritization and accountability of tasks as well as a strong attention to detail.

  • Proficient with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite a must.

  • Experience with vessel planned maintenance (PMS) programs an asset.

This is a shore based position based in Port Hawkesbury, Nova Scotia. Some travel may be required. Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
